Jim began his legal career as a Law Clerk with the Onondaga County District Attorney and the Onondaga County Law Department in Syracuse, New York. He then joined a small law firm in Syracuse where he handled various cases ranging from personal injury, criminal defense, and constitutional issues. He was involved in several jury trials, including second chairing a high profile Federal Case. After moving to Oregon, he joined the firm of Spooner & Much, P.C. where he participated in multiple arbitrations and jury trials. In 2013, he and Dan Schanz started Schanz Lawler, P.C.
Jim graduated from Maxwell School at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York with a B.S. in Political Science in 1994. He graduated from the College of Law at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York in 1997. Jim has been admitted to practice in the State Courts of New York (1998), the US Federal District Court (NDNY) (1998), and the State Courts of Oregon (1998).
Jim is a member of the Oregon State Bar Association and the Oregon Association of Defense Counsel (OADC). He has authored several articles on construction defect claims and personal injury protection issues.
Jim is married to Carrie, and they have two children: Riley and Campbell. Jim enjoys spending time with his family and helping coach his daughters’ sports teams.
